This Large Jewellery box is crafted from very rare green Swamp Kauri. The box measures approximately 28 x 18cm, it has two levels with a removable tray.

A very small percentage of Swamp or Ancient Kauri has this green colour making it a very rear and unique treasure.

There are a couple of theories as to the cause of the green colouring, the first is the timber has been buried in a marine clay environment, the salts and minerals in the clay react with the resins in the timber to give the green tones.

The second theory is that the timber has been buried with Tea Tree, the oils in the Tea Tree react with the resins to create the green tones.

In the almost 30 years of working with Swamp Kauri I have had 3 pieces of green Swamp Kauri in my possession, one piece I found and removed from the ground myself, the other two pieces I purchased from a third party.

All three pieces were from a marine environment, but it is highly likely all 3 areas had Tea Tree growing on them at some point in their past. Possibly it's a combination of both.
